Why you shouldn’t use Wix for building your business website

Wix is a web development platform that allows users to create their own websites for free, simply and quickly. Their easy to use site building process aims to get rid of the need of professional web developers and often is why it’s a great option for freelancers and startup businesses looking to save money.

The biggest appeal of using Wix is it’s affordability and ease of use and with millions of users worldwide it obviously must be good for certain things, but is Wix a good choice your business website? Probably not.

No professional SEO

A lot of your organic rankings come from the SEO content featured on your website, this is possibly one of the most important parts of any website. However implementing SEO on a Wix website is pretty difficult. SEO content is often hard to generate without prior knowledge, someone just starting out may not create the high quality content Google requires. If you aren’t a professional SEO expert then it’s likely you’ll be unable to create great SEO and will ultimately miss out on getting found. 

‘Free’

Wix promote their websites as being free and whilst you have the option for a free website, for a business that’s pretty pointless. To get anything substantial you need to pay for some kind of plan, whilst it’s cheap to subscribe, and an Ecommerce plan does come in at £13 a month, cheap yes, free no.

Not unique 

With Wix you’re only provided with templates, all of which are available to other users and whilst you can customise these templates as best you can with your own content, you can’t really personalise them in the same way in which a developer would. Unfortunately you can’t have any added extras that are bespoke for your company and surely you want your business and your website to stand out from the rest, Wix just doesn’t offer that. 

No professional support 

You get a ‘free’ website, you build it and that’s about it, there’s no additional support after that other than perhaps sending the odd email or posting a question on the support system. With a professional website developer, any issues you might have with your website can be talked about and resolved, rather than you simply being left to deal with it yourself.

Overall Wix is a great option for freelancers or personal websites however can be an unwise choice for businesses. Save yourself time and money and find an expert web developer who can build your website specifically for your needs.
