An Insight Into Being A Front-End Developer At Discovery Design

Hi, I’m Tom, a Front-End Developer, Marvel Fanatic and Bastille Fan Boy here at Discovery Design.

After working in a similar role at a previous agency throughout and after university I felt that I needed to take the next step up in my career and join the Discovery team at the start of September 2018. After speaking with the directors and hearing that Discovery Design is a forward-thinking company, heading in the right direction and not afraid to adapt and change with the industry the decision was an easy one to make.

With Discovery Design having an amazing portfolio and a long list of exciting clients I knew that there would be an opportunity to work on a lot of challenging and engaging projects.

My role as a Front-End Developer requires me to take a static website design and make it come to life, while doing this my main focus is the user’s experience. On every project, the main aim is to deliver a beautiful website design that is developed to enhance the user’s experience across all devices.

Since starting I have already learnt so much, gained many more skills and have also been able to implement my existing skill set into the development and design process. I hope to become an all-round web developer over the next couple of years and with having two back-end developers to learn from, I will be able to learn from two different opinions and two sets of skills and techniques.

I have been lucky enough to work on a large amount of projects in my short time here already, all of which I have had the pleasure of working with some amazing clients from the initial meeting, through the design and development stages and then being able to deliver training to give these clients the tools and techniques to keep their websites up to date, SEO friendly and user engaging.

Coming into a company with such an amazing team has made my career change so much more enjoyable, anyone who has changed jobs before will know that it can be a stressful period, but (without sounding super cheesy) thanks to the team I feel like I have been working here for three years rather than three months!

I am very excited to see what 2019 brings for us all, I think it will be a very big and exciting year for Discovery Design, with some more additions to the team and a range of new projects to work on we will be very busy delivering more bespoke developments to help user experience across the web.
